On the last third february, Ceca-Gadis, considered one of the most important retail chains in Africa, opened a new Géant CKdo store in Libreville. The direction of the company encouraged by the success obtained with the high quality services offered by a supermarket opened in november, decide to keep the same strategy for the next three years, in order to satisfy the needs of the market demand.

The catering services offered by the new supermarket is a consequence of the recent choices made by the company, that decided to modernize every store and enlarge its product range for the next three years. The same strategy has been applied even for the other brands of the group, like Gaboprix, that soon will be integrated with Cecado. The main purpose of the group is the growth of the number of the sales. For this reason Ceca-Gadis is considering even the online trade, improving its digital communication and creating a new e-commerce platform.

Ceca-Gadis is the fourth african private group of the retail sector and the first one in Gabon. Despite the economic crisis and the fall of the visits in the stores, the company was one of the firsts retail chains of Africa, according to the last studies of the American A.T. Kearney institution. The entry rate in the african supermarkets fall of approximately five percentual points, moreover in Port-Gentil, the most important city of Gabon, after Libreville. The CEO of Ceca-Gadis Alain Rempanot Mepiat, highlighted the decrease of the value of the consumption basket, that reached the 7%, according the results obtained in 2014. The Company gained 216,5 billions FCFA (330 millions of euro) in 2016. According to Michel Essonghe, the Company overcomes the difficulties of the the grocery sector, investing on the trade of the building materials and the hardware products. The crisis didn’t stop the growth of the group that invested 30 billions franc CFA, improving its logistics and customers services. Moreover the Company opened new supermarkets, reaching the value of 12 billions FCFA of investments.

The national network of shops constitutes one of the most important resources of Ceca-Gadis that soon will face the entry of Carrefour and Auchan in the togolese retail market. The news didn’t shok the top management because of the past experience of the company, held by the french holding Optorg and the moroccan ONA, and also its belonging to some national financial institutes.

The shareholders didn’t lost their trust on the future of the company. Michel Essonghe, one of them, highlighted the abilities of the group « Ceca-Gadis was for long time bound to international groups, developing lots of managerial abilities. These skills will help Ceca-Gadis to face the future european competitors ». The new entries will increase the level of the competition in the market, moreover in the quality of the services. However Ceca-Gadis can count on the brand Casino, that has a great number of international suppliers, working even in the european market, and in particular in the french-speaking countries.
